Old friend, new friend

At the end of June I was visited by my dear friend Danette and her son, Cameron.  Danette and I have been friends since the time of my nasty divorce and the subsequent wild behavior that ensued.  Luckily, she was always there to do something more outrageous than I, so that the end result was not so catastrophic to my well-being.  We all need friends like that!

But seriously, Danette is a beautiful lady in every way.  She has a huge heart and once she is part of your life you wonder where the light was before she was there.  Although she has moved back to Texas to continue her education as a Nurse, we talk frequently (luckily she remembers to call, because I am terrible about that) and I consider her to be one of my closest friends.

I am often reminded of the goofy things we once did in our wilder days, and am amazed that we came out in one piece! It certainly was a lot of fun!

Cameron was not planned , but he is honestly the best thing she ever did.  He is a happy little boy that has all of his mom's facial expressions. Cameron was born in March, 2011, and was 5 1/2 months old during his visit.  He was the quietest baby I have ever met, and during their 3 might stay in my house, I heard him cry only once.  And I am an incredibly light sleeper.

Danette has grown to be an amazing mother. Watching her with her son was truly a pleasure. She still has that rebellious nature, but now it manifests in a fierceness only a mother has for the welfare of her child.

I enjoyed our visit immensely and was very sad when they had to move on to the next friend. We are planning a visit to Texas this winter. I am looking forward to seeing how Cameron has grown, and to finally get down to Texas as I have been promising for the last 5 years.

These are some of my favorite photos from our session.  I hope you enjoy them too.

Two weddings and a funeral

This June was filled with joy and sorrow.  The weekend of June 17th through 19th I had the privilege to participate in the weddings of two very special couples.  I also lost my dearest friend and companion, Max.

Marc and Roger have been together for over 12 years. The two grooms had been waiting for same-sex marriage to become legal in their home city of Atlanta, and they had planned to marry once it happened. They came to Cape Cod under the guise of a 40th birthday party for a friend. Unbeknownst to the other party-goers, they had another agenda.  Roger and Marc planned an intimate wedding ceremony for themselves at the Land's End Inn, Provincetown.  In attendance were the happy couple, myself, Kathleen the minister, and the innkeeper.  Onlookers from the second floor balcony included Kathleen Turner who was in town for the annual film festival.  It was a beautiful day and the simple ceremony was perfect. Roger and Marc exchanged vows and simple wedding rings overlooking Provincetown harbor.  We then had some fun with an extended photo shoot on the grounds of the Inn and all around town.

Laura and Wayne are a joyful pair. They laugh easily at each other and themselves. They love dogs and have created a home together in Wellfleet with two pugs, one cat, and Laura's son and daughter.  They are each very unassuming people that are generous in spirit. Their wedding was on a spectacular Saturday afternoon at Willowbend Country Club. The setting was perfect and the bride and groom were both radiant.  The ceremony was sweet and touching, with an added personal flair by Wayne's father, a retired minister.
Please enjoy some of my favorite shots from my time with Laura and Wayne.

Anyone who has shared their life with a pet knows the agony of their death.  Max lived for exactly 12 years, all but the first 12 weeks was with me. Max gave love to everyone he met, (with the exception of one former boyfriend, apparently he was a better judge of character than I).  He was the comic relief in my sometimes overly serious world, he was the 90+ pound lap dog that loved to snuggle.  Whenever I cried he would either hide or kiss my tears away. Max loved the beach, walking in the woods, visiting the horses next door, nibbling on ears and watching the world from the height of our deck.
Max also had a stubborn streak the size of Alaska and would often ignore my requests (or commands) to pursue his own desires.
After a difficult six months, Max succumbed to brochial disease and laryngeal paralysis on the morning of June 19th, two days after his 12th birthday.  He was the truest friend and the most amazing dog I have ever known. He leaves a void in this world, and will be missed everyday.

These bottom two photos were taken in May, and are the last pictures of Max that were made.

Boudoir portraits with Lisa

Monday was a great day.  My friend Lisa had volunteered to be my practice model for Boudoir portraits. She came over to the studio and we had some fun doing glamorous makeup and hair before her 2.5 hour photo shoot. She was a trooper and we created some awesome shots.

Lisa is a beautiful lady with the heart of a lion who was struck by a car last June. Her injuries were almost fatal, and she spent three weeks in intensive care, and she still does not have the use of her left arm. But through it all she retained her sense of humor, her strength and her determination that she was not going to let anything beat her.

Lisa is not afraid to let her scars be seen by everyone, to her they are a badge of honor, proving to the world that she can do anything she sets her mind to.  I admire my friend so very  much, and I was privileged to be able to spend the day with her.

These photos are straight out of the camera, with no editing at all. I believe they show a few aspects of her beauty. I hope you enjoy these selections from her session.

Headshots with Laurel

Today was setting up to be a lazy rainy day spent in unproductive pursuits.  Luckily I got a call from my friend Laurel Hartman, director of catering for Catania Hospitality Group.
Laurel is being featured in a magazine article and needed some headshots.  So, we had some fun.
Here are my favorites.

Heidi & Rennie's Wedding

April 9th was a bit chilly, but the sun was warm, and love was in the air.  I had the privilege to photograph the wedding of my long-time friend, Heidi.

The bride was radiant, the groom was all smiles and the ceremony was so very sweet.  I did have to navigate the rough waters between professional detachment and my soaring joy for the happy couple. There were some tears shed by the photographer that day.

Photo Shoot at Oasis Salon & Day Spa

Last Saturday was so much fun! I got to hang out with the fabulous people of Oasis Salon & Day Spa in West Chatham.  The owners, Cathy & Muriel wanted to update their sample books with new and fun hair styles done on real clients of the salon. The result was 15 models with 20+ hair-dos and gorgeous make up.

All the styles can be done for weddings, proms, formal events, and anytime you need a pick-me-up.

I will be working on new display books for the shop with Cathy & Muriel  next week. In the meantime, here are some of my favorites from the shoot.
